Southern Nuclear’s three plant sites are all recognized as certified wildlife habitats by the Wildlife Habitat Council. The council is a non-profit international organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing wildlife habitats.
Plant Farley has been certified since 1992, Plant Vogtle since 1993 and Plant Hatch since 1994. The sites have comprehensive land management plans that enhance the habitat for native plants and animals, such as longleaf pines, waterfowl and songbirds.
Recently, Plant Hatch’s wildlife habitat team installed 10 wood duck boxes built by the Jesup chapter of Ducks Unlimited on its property. These boxes provide a man-made home where female wood ducks can nest in relative safety.
