Millicent W. Ronnlund
Vice President, General Counsel, Compliance Officer & Secretary
Millicent W. Ronnlund is vice president, general counsel, compliance officer and secretary. In this role, she represents Southern Nuclear and is responsible for its compliance and concerns organizations. She is a member of the Southern Nuclear management council.
Previously a partner with Balch & Bingham LLP, Ronnlund focused on nuclear regulatory issues with a particular emphasis on new nuclear development. Her experience representing nuclear owners and operators has included several contested licensing actions before the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and she has been part of the legal team supporting construction of the Vogtle units 3&4 project.
She has counseled nuclear industry members about the international transfer of nuclear information as well as ongoing regulatory compliance for new and existing plants. Her contractual experience also includes the negotiation and administration of both domestic and international coal purchase agreements.
Ronnlund earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Rhodes College and her juris doctor from the University of Alabama School of Law. She currently serves as chair of the Nuclear Energy Institute Legal Steering Committee and vice chair of the Nuclear Committee for the American Bar Association Section of Infrastructure and Regulated Industries. She is a member of the Board of Directors of First Light, an emergency shelter for homeless women, including those with children, in Birmingham.
She is past chairperson of Balch & Bingham LLP’s Boot Camp for Success, which provides advice to minority and disadvantaged law students. She has been recognized by the Birmingham Business Journal as one of the Top 40 under 40, B-Metro Magazine as a Top Women Attorney and by Mid-South Super Lawyers as a Rising Star.
