Plant Farley outage performance rising to the next level

In a continued effort to make improvements to outage performance and quality of work, Southern Nuclear recently signed a contract with AREVA to provide outage services for both Plant Farley units from 2017 to 2021.

“AREVA has an innovative and cost-effective approach to the work they do for us, and has proven that they are prepared to make improvements in our outage performance in the quality of work completed, outage duration and overall cost,” said Dennis Madison, site vice president, Plant Farley.

AREVA, a global leader in supplying products and services to support the commercial operation of nuclear facilities, will provide refueling, steam generator and specialty non-destructive examination services, inspection and reactor coolant pump services that support the Farley plant in providing carbon-free and reliable electricity to Alabama’s grid.

“Site and Fleet Outage Services are excited about our next level partnership with AREVA as they leverage innovation and industry proven quality to support our excellence objective of consistently executing safe, reliable refueling outages while supporting Delivering the Nuclear Promise through efficiency and cost-effective performance,” explained Darrin Gard, outage manager, Plant Farley. “AREVA and the Farley Outage Work Management team are both eager to get started during this transition. By continuing to work together, we will ensure success for our upcoming fall outage.” 

Southern Nuclear has been working closely with the AREVA team for more than five years on projects across the fleet with positive results.
