“It is inspiring to be a part of such a talented team of individuals working toward that goal, and a blessing to work with leaders in these companies supporting those initiatives,” said Medlock.
With more than 27 years of experience in the nuclear industry, Medlock has had the opportunity to support 44 operating U.S. nuclear energy units – most recently at Vogtle 3&4. Now, along with other industry experts, he will lend his expertise to the next step in the development of this advanced reactor design.
Last year, SNC entered into memorandum of understanding with X-energy as a step toward commercializing and deploying the Xe-100, an adaptable modular reactor that increases safety and versatility, reduces capital costs and mitigates the risks associated with large-scale nuclear construction.
“I’m excited to have Clint as part of our X-energy leadership team,” said Dr. Kam Ghaffarian, founder and CEO of X-energy. “His nuclear experience, input and guidance has and will continue to be invaluable.”
Medlock’s engagement and leadership in the Xe-100 program will deepen the relationship between SNC and X-energy, driving the SNC toward its strategic objective of success in new nuclear.
“Southern Nuclear and X-energy are well-aligned to allow advanced nuclear capabilities to be a viable part of energy solutions,” said Brian Whitley, SNC nuclear regulatory affairs director. “We look forward to continuing to collaborate in ways that will support a robust future for nuclear energy and innovation.”
